1145-1215* W87 Creating Novel & Challenging Experiments
* Please note: due to a timetabling issue, this session will be 30 mins long – from 11:45 – 12:15
To ensure practical science keeps a prominent position in science education, experimental science activities must be designed to challenge scientific thinking and support understanding. Creating ways for working scientifically can be a challenge. Drawing from research and classroom practice you will leave this session with resources and a new enthusiasm for using practical science in your teaching, by exploring a range of novel activities that are presented to challenge learners’ ideas about the science they are learning.
This session is led by Dr Alex Holmes, who is a specialist biology and physics teacher with 14 years teaching experience and four years as the Lead Internal Verifier for BTEC Science.
She has been awarded a Pearson Silver Plato for ‘Science Teacher of the Year’ and has a PhD in Assessment, with research examining how educational experiences can influence the occupational outcomes of physics graduates.
Alex’s PowePoint and accompanying worksheet will be available to download online after her session on the Friday 8 January.
