Meet Our Science Authors

At Smart Learning our resources are written by experienced classroom teachers.

Our new Smart Science series has been written to deliver the new 2014 Programme of Study for science, by a team of trusted science authors, all with direct classroom experience.

David Sang (Physics)

David Sang taught science – mostly Physics – for 13 years. Since then, he has contributed to over 100 textbooks, teaching guides and websites for schools in the UK and around the world. He is Physics editor of Catalyst – Secondary Science Review and editor of the Institute of Physics’ Practical Physics website.

Gemma Young (Biology and Chemistry)

Gemma is a biochemistry graduate who worked for eight years as a secondary school science teacher. She now works as a freelance writer and consultant of educational science resources and specialise in curriculum development.

Gemma has been lucky to work on a wide range of different projects, from developing schemes of work like upd8′s WIKID to writing textbooks, iPad apps and revision videos.

Gary Skinner (Biology)

Gary Skinner undertook research on ant ecology during the 1970s, after which he was a teacher of Biology for 34 years. He retired in 2008 to pursue a variety of paths including Educational Consultant/Photographer/Author/Entomological Surveyor.

Gary is the author of A level science guides, books on ants, Smart Learning textbooks and many academic papers and popular articles. He has been the Biology Editor of Catalyst Magazine (14-19) for the last 10 years.
