Smart Site Licences
Smart Learning software resources have a range of site licence options available. Knowing which licence you need to purchase can be confusing, so this guide is designed to help you decide which is the best option for your school.
What is a software licence?
“A software licence is an agreement between you and the software provider that gives you the right to use the software. When you “buy software” you do not buy the software outright – you only buy a licence to use it and exactly what you are allowed to do is dependent on the type of licence.”

Smart Learning licence options
Single user licence (included with all CD-ROMs)When purchasing a CD-ROM from any Smart Learning series, this includes a SINGLE USER licence. This means that the resource can be used on one computer only within your school – so either on your Interactive Whiteboard or for pupils to use on one stand-alone computer.
Multiple user optionsIf you want to use your Smart Learning CD-ROM on more than one computer in the school, then you must also purchase a site licence with your CD-ROM.
There are two options for multiple user site licences:
Annual site licenceThis can be used on any number of computers within one school. The first annual payment is made when purchasing the CD-ROM. This licence must then be renewed every 12 months. Smart Learning will invoice you automatically each time the licence is due for renewal.
Please note that an annual site licence option is not available with the Smart Learning Interactive Literacy Series.
Permanent site licenceThis can be used for any number of computers within one school. This is one-off payment and the licence does not need renewing.
FAQsWhat will my Site Licence look like?
We do not issue a paper licence. The type of Site Licence you have purchased will be shown on your invoice from Smart Learning. This is your proof of purchase and you should keep a copy of this for your records.
If I buy a multiple user site licence, does this include a copy of the CD-ROM?No, you have to buy your copy of the CD-ROM separately. Each CD-ROM includes a single user licence only.
